The Member (Adaptation) will be responsible for developing and overseeing comprehensive climate change policies, programes, and projects. The primary goal is to create effective strategies that address climate change challenges and meet Pakistan’s commitments under international agreements and national policies. The core duties of the Member (Adaptation) include the following:
Policy Formulation:
- Development of policies, plans, and measures for climate adaptation and mitigation.
- Ensuring these policies align with international conventions, agreements, and the National Climate Change Policy approved by the Federal Government.
Institutional Mechanisms:
- Creation of Federal as well as Provincial structures/structures for funding and administration of climate change adaptation and mitigation projects.
- Referring to renewable energy sources and energy saving and rational use of energy programs.
- Any program involving the improvement of the competence of communities and ability to mitigate the effects of climate change and any awareness creation program in the same regard.
Project Development:
- Preparing adaptation and mitigation projects for international and local funding.
- Submission of projects to key global institutions such as the Clean Development Mechanism, Global Environmental Facility, Green Climate Fund, and Adaptation Fund.
National Climate Planning:
- Coordination and consultation while drawing the National Adaptation Plan and the action plans at provincial and local levels.
- The support to develop Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions National Communication Reports, and Nationally Determined Contributions to the UNFCCC accordingly.
- Supervising the process of the implementation of such activities.]
Technology and Innovation:
- Conducting Technology Needs Assessments and formulating a Climate Change Technology Action Plan.
- Seeking technical and financial support through mechanisms such as the Technology Mechanism.
Forest Protection and Conservation:
- Preparing projects to reduce emissions through the Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) Mechanism.
- Formulating guidelines for protecting and conserving natural resources, species, habitats, and biodiversity that are threatened by climate change.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management:
- The one which has not been effectively implemented in past years is a computerized national database and registry of greenhouse gas emissions, which should be harmonized with international standards and protocols.
- To work alongside key stakeholders from governmental and non-governmental organizations in examining, establishing, and minimizing GHG emissions.

Qualification & Experience:
- Applicants should possess a Ph.D or Master’s degree in an area of Climate Change or Environment.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience working in areas that relate to climate change and or environmental policies.
- The candidate should be a scientist, an academician, a professional, a government employee, whether serving or retired, an industrialist, an agriculturist, or technocrat of good standing who has rendered valuable service in these disciplines.
